Geopyörä Breakage Test Paper Approved for Pre-Print

Core Resources is pleased to share the recent advancement in rock breakage testing by Geopyörä. Their most recent paper, titled “Accuracy and Precision of the Geopyörä Breakage Test,” has been approved for pre-print. This is a significant step forward in the comminution field, showcasing the innovative testing methodologies Geopyörä has developed to enhance ore breakage characterisation.

The study, authored by Marcos de Paiva Bueno, Thiago Augusto de Almeida, Leonardo Ribeiro Lara, Malcolm Powell, and Homero Delboni Jr., focuses on two key objectives. First, it evaluates the accuracy of Geopyörä’s results compared to the standard Drop Weight Test (DWT) across seven different ore bodies. Secondly, it examines the precision of the Geopyörä device using a Round-Robin methodology, which involved testing across multiple laboratories with four distinct Geopyörä devices.

Key Insights from the Paper

  1. Improved Accuracy

The Geopyörä Breakage Test uses two counter-rotating wheels to apply controlled forces to rock specimens, differing from the DWT, which uses a falling weight. The study demonstrates that the Geopyörä is highly accurate, producing comparable results to the DWT while requiring less material. This allows for more detailed and cost-effective testing across various ore bodies, which is crucial for modelling and predicting ore processing performance.

  1. Enhanced Precision

The precision of the Geopyörä was validated through extensive testing in multiple laboratories. The Round-Robin tests confirmed that the test is both reproducible and consistent. This is a significant advancement over traditional methods, ensuring more reliable results across different environments and devices.

  1. Efficiency Gains

The Geopyörä device offers a faster and more efficient alternative to traditional testing methods, reducing the sample size needed for accurate results. This has the potential to streamline orebody characterisation, leading to more efficient mine planning and resource extraction processes.

The Future of Rock Breakage Testing

The approval of this paper for pre-print is a testament to the innovation behind the Geopyörä Breakage Test. As the paper undergoes further peer review, we anticipate even more insights into how this test can improve the accuracy, precision, and efficiency of ore breakage testing.
