Recovery of Gold and Antimony in Stibium Mopani Mine, South Africa
Background
Stibium Mining and its investment partners acquired the historic Consolidated Murchison gold-antimony mine in South Africa with the support of Core. Core assisted Stibium with on-site support in the recovery and retreatment of gold tailings, and with expansion strategies to ramp up gold and antimony production on high antimony / gold tailings.
Core scope
The work carried out by Core included:
- Developing the strategy for plant commissioning, focusing on gold production from an on-site tailings dam, ahead of antimony production.
- On-site leadership and management of commissioning of the processing plant.
- Overseeing a throughput increase from 50,000 t/month to 75,000 t/month. Identifying and managing key equipment upgrades and installations, including expansion of the circuit with a new 400 kW mill and additional leach tanks to allow the retreatment of coarse high-grade tailings.
- Extensive training of local operators.
- Assisting with Investor relations and in securing finance for the project.
