Core Resources and Glencore Win METS Ignited Collaboration Award
Core Resources and Glencore Technology were awarded the inaugural METS Ignited Collaboration Award at the 2016 IMARC Gala Dinner in Melbourne. This award recognised their successful partnership in the development and commercialisation of the Albion Process™, a breakthrough metallurgical technology that enhances metal recovery from refractory ores. Paul Voigt (Glencore) and Jonathan Loraine (Core), pictured, received the award from Ric Gros, CEO of METS Ignited.
Recognition for Industry Innovation
The METS Ignited Collaboration Award highlights successful partnerships between mining companies and technology providers, demonstrating how collaboration drives innovation in mineral processing.
Speaking to the issue of increasingly refractory ore bodies, Ric Gros said “The Albion Process plant turns the problem into an opportunity”.
Additionally, Core was named a winner in the 2016 Australian Technologies Competition, further acknowledging its leadership in developing cutting-edge metallurgical solutions. These awards reinforce Core’s role in advancing efficient and sustainable mineral processing technologies.
The Albion Process™ – Transforming Refractory Ore Processing
The Albion Process™ is a hydrometallurgical technology that combines ultra-fine grinding with oxidative leaching, increasing metal extraction rates from complex ores. This innovative process has been instrumental in improving the efficiency and sustainability of mining operations worldwide.
One of its most notable implementations is at the GPM Gold Project in Armenia. Before adopting the Albion Process™, the project struggled with gold recoveries as low as 20%. After integration, recoveries exceeded 98%, significantly enhancing project viability and profitability.
Industry Recognition and Future Impact
Jonathan Loraine, Executive Director of Core Resources, welcomed the recognition, stating:
“We are thrilled with the award and the recognition that this very important Australian technology is gaining around the world.”
The success of the Albion Process™ underscores the importance of industry collaboration in developing and implementing innovative solutions to complex metallurgical challenges.
